PARKING LOTS (2012)
72" x 36" Digital (Scalable Vector)
(Triptych: Black/White/Red)

In aerial views of parking lots one typically sees car colors that are some shade of black, shades of gray, silvers, white, and various shades of red. Even though there are other car colors such as blue, yellow and orange, the dominance of black, white and red make them less visible, even though bright yellow is a very conspicuous color. The Earth appears blue from when seen from a distance because blue is its dominant hue. Mars appears orange as it is its dominant hue, even though up close, there are other color ranges.

The use of only three hues extends the black-white binary by one increment, introducing color phenomena. The prevalence or red at that level may indicate that there is a certain bias or logic about color hierarchies.
